Dear Terra — Dare To Hope, Again.
In a not so distant past (and yet forever ago) there was a time when crypto liquidity was thriving. When the idea that a decentralized world needs truly decentralized money was a truth so plain and obvious that it would compel millions of people to join a movement.
A movement known as Terra.
A movement built on freedom and empowerment. That would unleash the powers of DeFi onto the global scene.
A movement I witnessed first hand.
I was there and part of the cheering crowd that said: “UST, UST, UST” at the top of our lungs. That cheered loudly when Do Kwon said it was us versus the establishment — that we would win.
That we would change the world.
All of that changed May 9th, 2022. A permanent pivot point for stablecoins and all of cryptocurrency.
Heartbreak. Hope shattered. I remember sitting at a pizza restaurant at 12:30 pm. at night. My body still with confusion and dispair. Holding on to a heavy weight of existential dread as thousands of people around the world felt not only their money disappear, but their hope.
A difficult choice was made in that moment and on that day by myself and a set of other builders.
To not give up. To not give in. To keep building.
To Dare To Hope, Again.
